The advantage of Office 365 is that you can upgrade to the new version of Office as soon as it’s released. Unlike the 2016 version, Office 365 allows users to buy subscription packages. If you change your computer, then you have to deactivate the code on the old computer or buy a new license key. I create users in AD, i follow the process of: User Logon Name: First.Surname. Office license keys can only work on one computer. We have Local AD (Server 2016), and are DirSyncd/Azure Active Directory to O365 for email.
Office 365 does currently have a number of ‘exclusive’ features. To install Office 2016, you’ll need to choose a standalone version of the Windows or Mac operating systems. Microsoft is now looking at bringing some of the more advanced Cloud features of Office 365, like Delve, to those still operating On Prem SharePoint the release of SharePoint 2016 will start to address this. Office 2016 allows users to utilize the software on their computers forever without paying any further charges however, if Microsoft releases a new version in the future, users must purchase a new license key for that version or continue using Office 2016 without the upgrades made available in the newest iteration. Office 2016 has several different versions of Office: Home and Student (made for the general public), and Business and Professional (made for more advanced users).
